About the Artist
I’ve been painting and drawing since I was a child, always drawn to the act of creating and losing track of time in the act of making something. It’s still the same today. Painting is my way of connecting with the natural world, and oil is the medium through which I slow it down and understand it.
Although I pursued a career as a lawyer for a time, I found that both art and law share an essential quality: the need to pay close attention to people, to nuance, to detail. Whether it's interpreting the subtlety of human expression or the fine print of a legal document, the details matter. That precision carries over into my approach to painting. That shared discipline – of looking closely, of trying to understand – continues to shape the way I approach my work.
Today, as a trained artist, I apply that careful attention to every canvas I create. My focus is on landscapes and portraits – capturing moments that feel at once fleeting yet grounded. I often use photographic tools, like reference images and digital manipulation, to experiment with the composition of a scene before transferring it to the canvas. This allows me to explore and perfect the balance of light, perspective, color and form in ways that feel true to my vision.
Oil paint offers the depth and texture I need to bring these compositions to life. With every layer, I strive to build a sense of space and time, capturing the essence of a moment: the way light dances across water, or the quiet emotion in someone’s gaze. My work is about noticing what’s often hidden–those small fleeting details that make an image feel real, immediate, and alive.
At its core, my work is about paying attention. It’s about distilling a moment – whether it’s in a landscape or a portrait – and giving it space to be seen.
